Not even close. The Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) of clothing and hats varies tremendously depending on fabric, color and weave/construction. For example, a white cotton T-shirt only has a UPF of 5. UPF 50+ is the recommended level for providing true protection from the sun. Unless you want to wear a dark colored, tightly woven wool sweater to the beach, it’s best to look for certified UPF 50+ clothing and definitely pop our UPF 50+ Sundercover® liner into your favorite hat to ensure your scalp and hair are protected all day long.
